The passing of our President P.L. Ferrari and his legacy
Our father, Pier Luigi Ferrari, was honored with condolences and messages such as: “He was a monumental figure in the P&I world and leaves behind a tremendous legacy in the maritime industry” or “We will remember him with great admiration as an important leader and innovator in our P&I world.”
It is difficult for us to summarize the main pillars of our father's work. We therefore asked him to tell us what he believed were the core values that guided his successful career.
The President’s Words
We share with you his own words: “Knowing how to listen, understanding the needs of Shipowners, and creating the right services to meet them.” “I believe this was one of my greatest achievements, especially at the beginning of my career. Everyone, especially shipowners, loves to share their experiences, which are truly fascinating. Listening with deep attention is certainly a key to understanding their needs and shaping our services around those needs.” “Establishing a clear relationship with shipowners.” “In the 1960s, the role of the Owners’ Broker, as we know it today, was not well known. At the time, the dominant figure was the Insurance Agent, someone whose interest was solely to safeguard the insurance company that employed him, often at the expense of the Client. The key to success was acting as the Shipowners’ Broker and explaining to Clients that the Shipowners’ Broker is there to protect their interests without compromise.” “Creating a strong relationship with colleagues and caring about their well-being.” “This, in my opinion, was one of the most successful traits: mutual trust was the key to creating, together with my Colleagues, the right working environment and, I would add, the passion for our work itself. The well-being of my Colleagues has always been my priority and a key to the success of my organization.”
Our father, after many years spent promoting his affection, positivity, and total dedication to his Clients, Colleagues, Partners, and Stakeholders, found himself embracing his original vision alone within his organization. This turning point led him to create FIRST Marine, a new reality that, together with his descendants, is entirely based on his original DNA—one that we are now more than ever proud to continue growing as his natural legacy.
